I was giving a presentation to the Alaska Bush Physical Therapists this past Friday, and while waiting to start I shot these pics with the iPhone 3G in the lobby of ANTHC's Corporate Office Building.  It's a gorgeous building / setting, and features extraordinary native art.  This mask is no exception; its amber glow captivated me for those few moments.  I wish I could give credit to the artist here, but I couldn't find a placard indicating who created it.

The Golden Glowing Mask - State Bird

I really like all forms of folk music, perhaps second only to jazz.  This song is by an acid-folk or indie folk-rock band called State Bird, and the song title and lyrics seem to fit with my photo of the glowing mask just perfectly.  The female backing vocalist is wonderful, for the tiny bit she contributes.  And when have horns been included in a folk song so successfully?

oh friends, it's getting dark,
but don't raise your hands at the sky
but fill your heart up with love,
it's all we have to fight back

when the moon comes down

we'll be in light, we'll be in light
when the moon comes down
we'll be in light, we'll be in light

i'll lay the gold mask down

i'll hide my eyes, i'll hide my eyes
i'll lay the gold mask down
i'll hide my eyes, i'll hide my eyes
